News November
2011 November 27 – We will be holding a friendly shoot on Sun 8th Jan 2012 at
Fleet Ibex. As usual all Fleet members will have free entry. Visitors will be
£3 each or £5 per couple. Proceeds from the shoot will go to a charity to be
selected on the day. Tea and coffee available all day. Start time 0900,
finishing approximately 1500. Early finish is to give us time to get the
targets in before it gets dark. November 10 – Some important news for members and guests. 2 items to bring to your
attention for this update. 1 – Major work is due to start at the club over the next two weeks.
This includes logging and thinning of trees over the entire woodland. This
work will be carried out over the next few (approx 3) months, and this
obviously means there will be some disruption to the laid out courses. Terry
and Keith are in contact with the contractors and will endeavour to keep the
targets shootable for as long as possible. Please note though, at some point
there may be parts of the grounds shut down for safety reasons. This is
unavoidable, but the club will work hard to get things together as soon as it
can be. Any developments will be posted here and also on our Facebook page. Thank
you all for your patience while the work is carried out. 2 – Our first Open shoot for 2012 has been rescheduled. It has been
moved to Sunday 15th April 2012. The format remains unchanged, 40
x 3D’s and it is still pre-book and pre-pay. We do hope this doesn’t
inconvenience anyone too much. Helen is in the process of contacting those
archers who have already paid to ask what they would like to do. August 2011 August 30 - Goodness has been that long since the open shoot. Apologies for the delay in getting everything up to date. Summer hols, children and other commitments took precedence I'm afraid. Hopefully this update will be to your liking. The new dates for 2012 are now on site, have a look and check out which days you would like to attend. Remember how popular these shoots are, so get in quick with your application folks. Results from the last open shoot are now on site. Click the relevant link for a peek at the full results listing. A report from Vicki Cunningham is shown below for those who just want the quick run down. Many thanks to everyone who attended and a large thank you to all who helped out. Without all of you, the shoot would not be possible. Well done to the following archers for their performance on the day. Ken Dendle Trophy: 1st = Wendy Gilfrin (Ladies HT) : 2nd = Carol Pearce (Ladies LB) : 3rd = Christine Hung (Ladies HT) Junior / U12 Handicap Trophy: 1st = James Clare (Jnr Boy HT) : John Hopkinson (Jnr Boy LB) : Aiden Parker (Cub Boy BH) Fleet Ibex Ken

August 07 - Folks. Next week is the next Fleet Ibex open shoot. For any members hoping to practice beforehand, please note...... the club grounds will be closed at the weekend. Saturday to prepare for the shoot and Sunday for the shoot itself. June 2011 June 20 - August shoot is now full, we have no spaces left, not a jot, nada, nothing........ I'm sorry folks, you need to get in quicker if you want to fling a few arrows at one of our excellent open competitions. June 5 - A reminder for all members. As you may be aware, and from information posted back in January, Team Sagittarius are borrowing the club grounds for a shoot that they are running. They will be at the club from Saturday AM to begin the setting up process and on Sunday will be the day of their shoot. The club grounds will be unavailable on those days (11th / 12th June) for members to practice. There are a limited number of places left for this shoot, contact details can be found on the flyer here ::::: ENTRY FORM June 4 - With thanks to Vicki Cunningham, here we have the shoot report from our May Open. Fleet Ibex Pre 3D
Champs & Clive Freemantle Memorial Shoot - 22 May 2011. With only a week to go until the 3D champs at Osmaston,
over 160 archers arrived at the Fleet Ibex woods for a final practise shoot
before the big weekend. A new prize was on offer for the Compound Unlimited
archers, the Clive Freemantle trophy in memory of Clive who was a member of
Fleet Ibex right back when it first started and was instrumental in running
the club and helping with the implementation of some of the buildings now on
site. The trophy shield will be kept on the wall at Fleet Ibex and each year
the winner of the Compound Unlimited group will have their name added on it
for everyone to see. Well done to Robin Shelley for being the first name on
the trophy.
June 2 - As of yesterday only a handful of places left for the August shoot. So if you were planning on attending, get your application in quick. May 2011 May 30 - While I'm on a roll with the updating of the website, I would just like to congratulate all who took part in the 3D Champs this weekend and welcome home the Fleet Ibex archers. Also please find here a shoot report from the April Open, written by Vicki Cunningham; Fleet Ibex Easter Shoot – 24th April 2011. May 26 - Quicker than last time - May results are uploaded. Well done to all who took part. May 23 - Apologies for the delay folks. Things have been busy at times and I have had little time to do this. Results for the April shoot now uploaded. As soon as I have them, I will upload the results from the May shoot - I'll make sure that time is set aside so that you have them sooner. April 2011 April 27 - May shoot is completely full. No room and no reserve list for this one. Book early for August to avoid disappointment folks. Results for Easter shoot will be posted ASAP. March 2011 March 24 - The April Easter shoot is now full, no room in the inn, nada, nothing left, you're too late :-) Sorry folks, if you never got booked in time, you will need to try for another shoot. We have two more to go. February 2011 February 3rd - It's that time of year folks, the date is fast approaching for this years AGM. The date is set for Sunday the 6th March at the club. Any proposals are to be made in writing to either Keith or Terry with the proposer and seconder shown. Please remember that both proposer and seconder must be at the AGM. The other members might have questions and if you're not there, you can't answer them. The weather is warming up now and from the looks of things the foliage is already starting to change ready for the Spring and Summer. Time to get to get my arrows out and hopefully I won't find any rust on the points ;-) January 2011 January 7th - Slight delay to this report, family commitments and a return to work put paid to a quick response. Anyway folks, looks like the New Year Friendly was well received, especially Sarah's special chili. It's always hard to count numbers at friendlies, but we think about 70 archers turned up, to shoot another challenging course laid by our very own superb course layers. Thanks just have to go out to: Sarah for all her hard work in the kitchen - Kevin and Tony for the superb course - Sarah and Tony for their special donation - all the members who stayed behind to clear up - and last but by no means least all those who turned up and spent their hard earned money to help us raise a grand total of £250 for our chosen charity this year, Help for Heroes. For anyone who missed out helping us, it's not too late to donate - Help for Heroes - web link should help you find the right place. January 1st - The New Year is here and we start with news of a shoot being held at Fleet Ibex on 12th June. This is the "Wild Adventure" Shoot which has been created by members of Team Sagittarius and will be held on the date mentioned. Entry forms should be sent to Sharon Charman, who's address is on the form itself and can be found here - ENTRY FORM Lots of moving targets and some really challenging shots, but given the nature of the targets and the shoot itself, an age limit has been imposed for entrants of 16yrs minimum. Any further information can be found on the entry form. If you need to know more, please use the contact details on the form to speak to a member of Team Sagittarius. December 2010 December 7th - New Year Friendly update = Just a short note for the New Year Friendly. Our superb Chili Chef, Sarah, has volunteered her services again for the next shoot. For those of you who were at the club at the last friendly, this went down very well and disappeared very quickly as one archer after another went back for more. Sarah can't produce this wonderful food for free however, so for those who would like to partake, there will be a very reasonably priced request for a "donation". Tony and Kevin, would also like to recreate their "Hunting Distance" target placement, as they did last friendly. So as well as the usual boss + target, you will also find about 20 3D targets set at very close distances (close by Fleet standards anyway). Target placement will be challenging, but everything will be hittable. You just have to find the hole which your arrow fits through ;-) November 2010 November 20th - NEW YEAR FRIENDLY DATE DECIDED = It's coming up to that time of year. The Fleet Ibex New Year friendly is almost upon us, well as upon us as this side of December can be :-) We are releasing the date early, so that everyone can make plans and attend if they are free. Sunday 2nd January ---------. As usual, all members of Fleet Ibex shoot for free (apart from the cost of their lost arrows that is). Non members will be charged £3 each or £5 per couple, starting at 10am, with all proceeds going to a charity to be decided upon on the day of the shoot. You are welcome to come, no booking needed, although you are welcome to show your attendance using our Facebook page. This is a fun day, so some along and have fun. Fancy dress optional. ;-) Tea and coffee available all day ........ Drink lots and shoot until you run out of arrows, or until we close the gates (whichever comes first). September 2010 September 9th - Hi guys. Okay it's been a long time since the last update, and this one is overdue by a long shot. I can only apologise for that. A holiday which started the weekend of the clubs last shoot and a quick return to work meant that I've had little time to devote to the website. So here goes with the update from the August Open. Over 160 archers turned up for the Ken Dendall Trophy shoot. It was touch and go with the weather, after the blustery and wet Saturday, but Sunday turned out to be dry and sunny with a little cloud. Course laying could only be described as the usual deviousness, with the best shots the long downhill bedded elk, to the 2 yard skunk. We even threw in a nice easy bison shot for everyone at 48yards, instead of the usual 65ish. Turns out that a few were caught out by that change. Even with these challenging shots, there were some surprising high scores. Ladies AFB had a perfect day, with the first 5 places for the Ken Dendall from there. Best for the day would have to be Mandy Parnell (Independent) who took first place in the trophy shoot under our handicapping system, Second place to Bela de Freitas (Independant) and Third place to Samantha Moss (South Wilts). A further well
done goes to those Junior archers. shooting for the Junior and Under 12
shields. Sixteen archers for these trophies and the results were - 1st: Tom
Holford (Windrush) 2nd: Jamie Holford (Windrush) and 3rd: Harry Strudwick
(Fleet Ibex). A lovely day and it showed in the faces of those taking part,
not just the winners. It's always heartening to see so many archers wanting
to return to our club and we have had many trying to book for the first shoot
of 2011 already (I don't even have the dates yet - Many thanks to everyone who attended and to all those who helped on the day. Without you, this would not be possible. Wayne Cappleman (Webmaster) |
